Steel as a Foundation

Most Cricket Forge pieces begin with domestic steel plate. It offers the strength and structural stability needed for outdoor work while allowing the forms to remain expressive and detailed.

Steel is cut, shaped, welded, and finished in our Durham shop. Each piece arrives fully welded and ready to place, with no assembly required. The weight, structure, and material integrity are part of what allow these pieces to live outside for years of use.

Durability by Design

Where strength begins

Every Cricket Forge piece begins with domestic steel selected for strength and longevity. The material is cut, shaped, heated, and welded in our Durham shop using a combination of modern tools and traditional metalworking techniques.

Built through process

Steel moves through several stages before it becomes a finished piece. Components are precisely cut, shaped with heat, and welded together by hand. Surfaces are then prepared so the protective layers that follow can bond directly to the metal.

Made to hold up

Durability is designed into every stage of the process. Protective coatings and layered finishes help guard the steel from corrosion while maintaining the depth and character that define Cricket Forge work.

Layered Finishes

After zinc coating, each piece is finished with multiple layers of industrial-grade paint.

Many products use a hand-applied dry-brush technique developed in the shop over decades. This approach creates variation, depth, and subtle texture across the surface while allowing the structure of the piece to remain visible.

Some finishes incorporate additional layers, including color-shift pigments or transparent coatings that allow metal textures and grind patterns to show through.

Each piece is finished by hand to ensure consistency and detail at both close range and distance.

AGING AS INTENDED
Fabricated more than two decades ago, this table has remained outside through constant exposure to the elements.

Its surface has softened slightly with time, but the steel remains protected and the structure unchanged, demonstrating the durability built into every Cricket Forge piece.
